Pigs In Bath

DSCF0061

It looks like this year will see a livening up of Bath and its surrounds quite considerably by a public art project to introduce 100 decorated life sized pigs in and around the City.

I happened to stumble across the warehouse where they are being prepared the other day, and went back today to shoot off a few photos (trying out my new camera) and have a general nose around. We then went to look at the first Pigs to be put into place which were situated in Walcott Street (in what might once have been termed Bohemian Bath).

Pigs have been chosen because of the legend that Bath was discovered by Bladud who’s pigs wallowed in the mud from the hot springs. See more here

Public Art projects using animals are not new, but it is to Bath. Cow Parade which started in Switzerland (but is more well known perhaps in Boston and other areas in America), is probably the most famous and also the Bears in Berlin. There have been pigs used before in a project called the Big Pig Gig in Cincinnati.

I will try and photo as many of the Pigs in situ as possible. In the meantime head over to http://www.kingbladudspigs.org/ to find out more
